About
Dave is a freelance sound engineer based in the South of England. When he isn’t engineering he has a passion for all things tech (especially if it’s made by Apple) and loves to spend time with his fiancé, Rosie, who currently lives in Newport where she’s studying for her BA (Hons), complete with JNC, in Youth Work.
Dave has always loved sound and recalls pointing out an encyclopaedia article on recording studios and saying proudly to his parents that that’s what he wanted to do. Of course he could never have predicted the collapse of that many studios, nor the rise of home recording. Dave credits firstly Duncan Mackrill and then, Northbrook College Sussex, University of Chichester before finally reaching Paul Burton and Martin Smith for encouraging and training him in the ways of the engineer. Not to forget Mark Robins for the assertiveness training that probably changed his career during the two week tour.
To supplement his freelance work Dave works part time at Arun Community Church as the snappily titled Events and Technical Co-Ordinator. In this role he oversees the organization and execution on our Sunday meetings, special events (Like Resound) and manages the ever growing IT systems at the two offices.
As well as his technical know-how Dave takes great pride in being a supporter of Love146, where he heads up the Southampton Central task force, and enjoys writing articles for other websites when he gets given the opportunity. So far as social networks are concerned Dave has a slight love/hate relationship with Facebook and prefers Twitter where he tweets are DaveJohnsonUK.
At some point in the future Dave wants to go on a road trip across the USA (starting most probably in Detroit and in a car such as the Dodge Challenger or the Chevrolet Camaro) to learn from former employees and current car dealers about the downfall of the American car industry and using the accumulated research, interviews and the such like to write a book – Yes, it’s an odd topic he is aware of this.
After being challenged by Rosie to come up with 50 things he wanted to do with his life he came up with the following nuggets.
- Record and release my own EP
- Take a Haley Davidson from one coast of the USA to the other
- Run a half marathon
- Learn basic Japanese
- Put on a photo exhibition in a gallery
- Build and program my own robot
- Become a trending topic on Twitter (we’re using the # tag #davejohnson )
- Cross the international date line (By boat)
- Learn to cook Egg and Bacon Ice Cream
- Engineer, even if it’s one off, for either Paramore or Hayley Williams.
All of which happily describes Dave – music, tech, travel.
